The founders chose to focus on two emerging and complex areas of law: state and federal tax law, and labor law. This strategic decision positioned the firm at the forefront of legal developments that would shape American business for decades to come.

The Washington D.C. expansion
In 1978, our firm took a strategic step that would significantly expand our capabilities and national presence. We opened our Washington D.C. office, led by Carla Anderson Hills, who brought exceptional credentials and expertise.
Ms. Hills had recently completed her tenure as U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, where she gained invaluable experience in administrative law and government relations. Her leadership established our firm as a major presence in the nation's capital.
This expansion into administrative law complemented our existing strengths in tax and labor law, positioning us to serve clients facing increasingly complex regulatory challenges at the federal level.
